Ye Jeevan

Ye Jeevan
Pal mein rulaye
Toh pal mein hasne ke sau avasar de jaye
Ye Jeevan
Ik pal beeta hue kal ki yaad dilaye
Toh dooje pal beete hua kal ke kabhi na aane ka
Ehsaas dilaye
Ye Jeevan
Kabhi kisi ke saath se nauka paar karaye
Toh kabhi uss saath ko bojh banaye
Ye Jeevan
Kabhi dil ke armaano ko raakh kar jaye
Toh kabhi wahi naach nachaye
Ye Jeevan
Safal hone ki chaah mein
Apno se door karaye
Aur safalta ki unchaiyon pe pahochne par
Akelepan ka ehsaas karaye
Ye Jeevan

Shayad, Jeena isi ka naam hai!

Naav ye meri :)

Isn’t it wonderful how a certain small thing brings back so many memories! While I was cleaning my cupboard in the morning today, I found a small paper boat under my clothes. Around 6 months ago, when I made this small boat in a taxi, thinking of preserving it for long, I knew someday when I will look at it again, it will make me smile. This small thing brought back memories of my first trip to Bombay, my first local train journey and my first sight of the sea. It also brought memories of some people I met for the first time, Thank God it’s Friday, and the time spent at Priyadarshini.

Apart from these obvious things, it brought back memories of something I hadn’t imagined while making it. It reminded me of my childhood. It reminded me of the time and efforts that my mother took to teach me to make it. The stupid lunch break competitions as to how many boats one can make in a minute. It reminded me of the time when after the rains, I and my friends would keep these boats in the drain to have a boat race. And now while I am writing this post, and I see how heavily it’s raining outside, I have a huge smile on my face. J

The Speaking Tree

"It is important for the one you love to be brilliant and bright, beautiful or handsome, but too much of it does not make for compatible living. Brilliance needs to take rest for a while if its purpose is to be realized."

"The sun may not realize how many less brilliant stars are waiting for their bit of glory. Similarly, the learned do not know what it is to be unlettered or uninformed. The loved do not know how the less fortunate ones yearn for a little bit if it."

Seldom do I read this column of the newspaper. I did in the morning today. And it made me revert to the phase when I used to think it is good to be average.

Have I changed for good - II

“Khali, I am really sorry man for whatever I did. I regret it a lot”

A message at night, a call in the afternoon and an invitation to drink.
Had I fought back that day, do you think THIS would have happened!

Those two hours...

Those two hours. Probably the best two hours of the day. The time when you forget all your problems in life. The time when you concentrate on one single thing. The time when you have an aim and you exert yourself in order to accomplish that aim.The time which makes you realize the importance of team work. The time which tells you that you need to be strong in order to move ahead. That you will surely get some bashing on your way. The time which holds immense power to make or break your day.

The Power of Football

They say "Football is a matter of life and death."
No, it is much more than that!

Courage..

The nation is concerned about the health of a Baba who seems to be fighting for a just cause (or just trying to eat some publicity for a vested political interest). Ever wonder about the wellness of a civil rights activist who has been on a hunger strike since the last 10 years?

Have I changed for good?

From a fat short kid, to a tall thin boy.
From someone whose week didn't pass by without a fight, to someone who surpasses every dispute.
From someone who chalked out the future, to someone who takes on life as it comes.
From someone who shied away from talking to girls, to someone who is called as the new player by his friends.
From a selfish arrogant human, to someone who finds happiness in making others happy.
From someone who once cried throughout the year, to someone who cannot cry at all.
From an opening fast bowler in the school team, to someone who wants people to think beyond cricket.
From someone who had no interest in peoples lives, to someone who gossips like a girl.
From someone who took pride in the things he possessed, to someone who finds them immaterial.
From an atheist, to someone who was shown there exists a God.

A month back, I got beaten up by a batch mate of mine over something really stupid. I didn't fight back. I calmly walked away. People called me a coward. I wonder what is more courageous. Fighting back or moving on without uttering a word. After gaining years of experience in this field, I have realized, fighting only makes things worse. My conscience says I did the right thing.

But still events like these often make my mind ask this particular question - Have I changed for good?

Aankhi...

The one and only person who wrote a testimonial for me on Orkut. That too after talking to me only once. :P Extremely talented and dumb at the same time, this girl would go on to do anything that she likes. The most popular one in college (thats what she claims to be :P) is the modest of them all (thats something I vouch for :)) We bonded over music and the Fifa World Cup and soon we became late night online Facebook best friends (thats what we called it i guess) :P We talked about the most random of things. We even fought over things like who is more awesome, you or me! :P Amidst all the teasing, slowly and gradually we became good friends. As I go on writing this post, I remember all the fun that we have had. People even started linking us up. You might not  know this, but people had started calling me 'Bengali Babu' in the hostel :P. But I am glad that none of this jeopardized our friendship. I was always there for you whenever you needed me (I tried at least) and I will continue to be. May you keep crying (you are blessed you can do that) as you do on the most trivial happenings in your life and may your popularity reach newer levels this year.

Happy Birthday

The School

Once upon a time, the animals decided they must do something heroic to meet the problems of "a new world". So they organised a school.
They adopted an activity curriculum consisting of running, climbing, swimming and flying. To make it easier to administer the curriculum, all the animals took all the subjects.
The duck was excellent in swimming, in fact better than his instructor, but he made only passing grades in flying and was very poor in running. since he was slow in running, he had to stay after school and also drop swimming in order to practice running. This was kept until his webbed feet were badly worn and he was only average in swimming. But average was acceptable in school, so nobody worried about that except the duck.
The rabbit started at the top of the class in running, but had a nervous breakdown because of so much make-up work in swimming.
The squirrel was excellent in climbing until he developed frustration in the flying class where his teacher made him start from the ground up instead of from the treetop down. He also developed a "charlie horse" from overexertion and then got a C in climbing and a D in running.
The eagle was a problem child and was disciplined severely. In the climbing class he beat all the others to the top of the tree, but insisted on using his own way to get there.
At the end of the year, an abnormal eel that could swim exceedingly well, and also run, climb and fly a little, had the highest average and was valedictorian.
The prairie dogs stayed out of school and fought the tax levy because the administration would not add digging and burrowing to the curriculum. They apprenticed their children to a badger and later joined the groundhogs and gophers to start a successful private school.
Does this fable have a moral?

Courage

"So you think I am courageous?" She asked.
"Yes, I do."
"Perhaps I am. But that's because I've had some inspiring teachers. I'll tell you about one of them. Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at Stanford Hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liza who was suffering from a rare and serious disease. Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood transfusion from her five-year-old brother, who had miraculously survived the same disease and had developed the antibodies needed to combat the illness. The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister. I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a deep breath and saying,'Yes, I'll do it if it will save Liza.'
"As the transfusion progressed, he lay in a bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing the color returning to her cheeks. Then his face grew pale and his smile faded. He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice,' Will I start to die right away?'
" Being young, the boy had misunderstood the doctor; he thought he was going to have to give her all his blood.
"Yes, I've learned courage," she added,"because I've had inspiring teachers."

One at a Time

A friend of ours was walking down a deserted Mexican beach at sunset. As he walked along, he began to see another man in the distance. As he grew nearer, he noticed that the local native kept leaning down, picking something up and throwing it out into the water. Time and again he kept hurling things out into the ocean.

As our friend approached even closer, he noticed that the man was picking up starfish that had been washed up on the beach and, one at a time, he was throwing them back into the water.

Our friend was puzzled. He approached the man and said," Good evening, friend. I was wondering what you are doing."
"I am throwing these starfish back into the ocean. You see, it's low tide right now and all of these starfish have been washed up onto the shore. If I don't throw them back into the sea, they'll die up here from lack of oxygen."
"I understand", my friend replied,"but there must be thousands of starfish on this beach. You can't possibly get to all of them. There are simply too many. And don't you realize this is probably happening on hundreds of beaches all up and down this coast. Can't you see that you can't possibly make a difference?"

The local native smiled, bent down and picked up yet another starfish, and as he threw it back into the sea, he replied,"Made a difference to that one!"

Thanks Mom..

Take your plate into the kitchen.
Don't hit your brother.
Did you brush your teeth?
Go to bed. Time to sleep.
Wear a sweater.
Keep your shoes inside the shoe-rack.
Two minutes more and you are not getting the breakfast.
Clean up your room.
Eat that. It's good for your health.
Don't sit so close to the TV, it's bad for your eyes.
Do this, do that!

A Mother spends half of her life looking after her children. Yes it is truly said, behind every success, there is a Mother. We often fail to notice and value the little things that she does for us. I am thankful to you mom for wherever I am today. It is because of your love and support that I am able to face this ruthless world. Also, I am sorry for the times I was rude to you, the times when i argued with you thinking that you don't understand. Such a fool I was to always laugh at your advice.
I love you. Happy Mother's Day!

Of the Never Ending Sea

You look down, you see it touching your feet.
You look up, you see the never ending distance.

You feel the wind, pushing you away.
You hear the sound, calling you its way.

The surface looks so calm.
Never do we think, what lies beneath.

Never stops moving.
But is always still.

This is my second trip to Mumbai. A long one. And it's turning out to be really good. But, something is missing. Sometimes, the most beautiful thing also seems incomplete. Needless to say what it is. Every-time I see the Sea, I remember my first trip to this city. I miss her being around me.

India Shining

G - Wakil sahab, checking toh karwa lo!
A - Jaante nahi ho ye kaun hain?
G - Haan bhaisaab. Lekin aise kaise jaane dede?

He came back. He got himself checked. He entered.

This is what happened in the Delhi High Court a few months ago.
Mr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi was stopped outside the court premises by a guard while entering.

India Shining. Indeed.

Speechless...

As i stare at this blank page,
the thinking process starts again,
but there is only one thought that comes to my mind,
the one that has been there for quite a few days.

It had been so nice to just look at her,
her eyes so curious and deep,
her smile so slight, her hair,
and her weather-beaten face.

It was not the warmth of the flame,
but that of her skin,
that had turned the strong blaze,
into a cool breeze.

Her silence had a sweet sound,
the sound that shunned the noises around,
and the darkness never seemed as bright,
as it seemed on that particular night.

That was once when her beauty rendered me speechless,
but never once to feel so low,
and as the clock ticked away,
I was brought to my senses.

An attempt!

There was something strange about the evening
Not that it was different from the usual
It made me think
It is something that i do seldom

What was it that made me so strong?
What was it that made me come so far along?
I have been lonely for most of the times now
What was it that changed my world around?

I never feared the darkness
Neither did I enjoy the sunshine
What was it that brought back
The sensitivity in my life.

I smile when there is no reason to smile
I cry when I see others crying
Things which did not matter have become important
The most important things are not really the same.

While the answer is right in front of me
As of now I choose to ignore it
For the simple reason that darkness becomes more dominating
After a ray of light.
